Advanced Talmud Teacher

Jewish Community High School of the Bay, a pluralistic, college-preparatory independent school providing an outstanding educational experience to boys and girls in grades 9-12, seeks a dynamic faculty member to teach advanced Talmud and Jewish Studies and to develop programs with the Student Life team starting July or August 2011. The particular mix of teaching and programming will depend on the candidate’s specific strengths and skills. Enthusiasm for teaching high school students about Judaism in a pluralistic environment and helping them develop Jewish identity -- both within and beyond the classroom – is essential. A strong academic background is expected, as is experience working with high school students. A candidate with smicha is preferred.

A full-time position at JCHS includes teaching four sections (or equivalent programmatic engagement), leading/facilitating daily-morning Mechitza Minyan (one of several minyanim at JCHS), meeting with students outside of class for extra help, acting as an advisor to students, participating in all-school gatherings and events, and involvement with the extracurricular life of the school. JCHS is open to structuring a part-time position, provided the candidate can be on campus approximately 75% of the school week. Athletic coaching is not required or expected.

Employment decisions are made on the basis of an individual's skills and qualifications and will not exclude a candidate from consideration on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or marital status.

Interested candidates should email a cover letter, resume, and names of three references to Jeremy Cole: jcole@jchsofthebay.org. No calls please.
