Instructions for video calls using Google Hangouts

For participants:

In order to participate in our video conference call, you will need to follow these instructions to set up Google Hangouts:


  1. In order to use Google Hangouts, you will need a Google+ account. If you do not already have one, you may create one for free at plus.google.com. If you have a GMail or Google Apps account, you can just sign in with that login and password and then activate your Google+ profile for that account.

  2. You will also need to install the Google Hangouts plugin on your computer. You can download it from this page.

  3. To participate fully in the call, you will need a webcam and a microphone. Please make sure they are set up correctly in advance of the call. Let us know if you need help with this. If this is absolutely not an option for you, it is possible for you to participate (audio only) via phone.

  4. Make sure to send the facilitator of the call the email address you used to sign up for Google+. They will need it in order to add you to the call.

  5. When it’s time for the call, make sure you are signed into Google+. You should receive a notification inviting you to join.
